FOOD | New York Restaurant Week - Root & Bone

Hey Creatives,

New York City Restaurant Week just past *sorry for informing y'all so late, my bad!*
New York Restaurant Week is held twice a year in the summer and winter. Restaurants in NYC offer a 3-course pre-fixed menu for either brunch, lunch or dinner. Brunch/lunch - $25 and dinner - $38 not including tax, gratuity and drinks. NYC restaurant week offers all types of food from Mediterranean, soul food, Thai to steak houses and much more. I went to a few restaurants, Root and Bone being one of the most recent ones.

Root & Bone located on 200 E 3rd St, New York, NY 10009 in Alphabet City. They are "soul nurturing, conscientiously sourced, farm-fresh ingredients." simply put, good-for-you soul food. The staff is semi-attentive, friendly and semi-knowledgeable, well our server was.

I am a fan of very good and innovative salads and the grilled peach salad at Root and Bone did not disappoint. It was served with a pimento cheese croquette, pickled green tomatoes, heirloom tomatoes and a basil molasses vinaigrette. This salad was very tasty, the flavors of the croquette, grilled peaches and the vinaigrette was a perfect and exciting balance. The pickled green tomatoes were very good too, a nice sweet and crunchy kick.

Lemonade with peach vodka, they do not have a wide selection of alcohol. However, it as a good combo!

Baaaaybeeee *Toya Wright's voice*
When I tell you about this plate right here. Man listen! I have had a good selection of shrimp and grits in my lifetime and this might be the best I have ever had. The skrimp & grits, as root & bone calls them was very delicious. The upstate NY grits, Edwards Virginia country ham, Brooklyn lager jus and sautéed gulf shrimps were in harmony. The grits were creamy, not lumpy and not over salted. I want to say some cheese was added, but not too sure. Au jus, which is French for broth or sauce was simply delicious, this meal without a doubt set off the 'itis for me.

Mac-n-cheese, HORRIBLE
The noodles were undercooked, no seasoning, no pungent cheese flavors and it took FOREVER for it to come out.

Chilled watermelon served with sea salt, lemon verbena and thyme. An unusual pairing, nonetheless, the sweetness of the watermelon and the savoriness of the seasonings were in perfect harmony.

Peaches and cream - heavy whipped vanilla bean cream with caramelized peaches and an oatmeal crumble. I thought I tasted some bourbon in it, but our served said there was no alcohol in it.

Compliments of the chef due to displeasing mac-n-cheese - chocolate ice cream bar with a side of fudge.

Compliments of the chef - pineapple upside down pie with homemade frozen yogurt

Ridin' thru root&bone with my woes LOL

Cheers to good and pre-fixed food LOL
